Zig Zag collection by DAAA Haus and Jaipur Rugs

Zig Zag is the new collection of handmade rugs, inspired by modern abstract art, designed by DAAA Haus, an international design studio based in Italy and Malta, for Jaipur Rugs, an Indian company specialising in the production of handmade rugs.

The four designs in the collection present an intricate play of patterns where large, irregular black volumes emerge from the white background, meticulously connected by a thin thread of colour. The collection aims to transform and render the urban landscape through lines and textures: the detail of a brick wall, the charm of an ancient Roman mosaic or the elegance of some ceramic vases become direct inspiration for the collection’s designs.

Keith Pillow, founder of DAAA Haus explains the inspiration for the collection: “Each carpet in this collection is a visual representation of the essence of life. The stark contrast between the white that symbolises empty space from which emerge, in contrast, the black volumes that represent the architectural structures built by men. In this representation, man finds his place as creator and giver of life, giving colour through life becausé otherwise objects would remain as they are“.

Zig Zag thus combines architecture and art, in a play on the juxtaposition of fullness and emptiness, creating a new visual exploration where each carpet is a testimony to the rich interplay between design, heritage and contemporary expression.
